Floyd Mayweather has hinted he is keen to buy a controlling stake in Newcastle United from British billionaire Mike Ashley.
Reports have claimed that the retired American boxer is keen on securing a deal for the club but no official talks have taken place, with his net worth estimated to be around £500m.
Mayweather was recently asked at a fan event: ”You're very, very interested in buying Newcastle United?”
The undefeated boxer replied: "In the U.S. we call it soccer, but the Newcastle football team is an unbelievable team. A hell of a team."
He then told the fans in attendance: "If the people want me to buy the Newcastle team, let me know!"
TMZ have now added that Mayweather's team have confirmed the interest as real, and not just a PR stunt.
A handful of Newcastle supporters have since made their thoughts clear online, with their relationship with Sports Direct boss Ashley infamously fractured.
One fan said: “Please make this happen.”
With another adding: “Come to Premier League my man. Mike Ashley can't maintain Newcastle United.”
